The Gungahlin Jets is pleased to announce that Samuel Tonkes has signed with the club for season 2019.
The experienced 25-year-old forward joins the Jets after spending 2018 with NEAFL Club Canberra Demons. Sam’s football resume includes numerous representative football programs, a stint with SANFL club Port Adelaide Magpies and a rookie spot with AFL club Port Adelaide.
Tonkes will also play a role off the field. Sam has agreed to share his knowledge as an Assistant Coach in the Forwards in 2019.
Gungahlin Jets Head Coach, John Love, values what Tonkes brings to the Club.
“Tonksey has a wealth of football knowledge, having experienced a higher level of footy, and I look forward to him sharing that knowledge with our developing group and club. His leadership attributes will also assist in pushing the playing group to be more than competitive in 2019”
Tonkes is the first NEAFL player to sign with the Gungahlin Jets, something that Love is quite excited about.
“The Canberra Demons run a quality and professional program. To have some of that transferred to the Jets through the signing of a quality player and person is exciting. We are attracting quality people, and this is a great thing to progress the Jets to a level that is competitive within Canberra AFL.”
Welcome to the Jets Family, Samuel
