Jets Fly By Uni

The Jets kicked of its 2015 campaign in solid fashion when they took on the Syd Uni boys in the now annual pre season game at Amaroo last Saturday.

Led by new recruit Dean Gartside and Rising Star Will Hambelton the jets hit the ground running and opened up a handy lead early in the first quarter. James Collingridge and Brenton Mace also started strongly in the midfield with the score at quarter time 3.5.23 to Uni 0.1.1

In the 2nd term the jets up the tempo and broke the game wide open with the team really enjoying the new game plan as they took the game on through impressive ball movement and work rate. Steve Rowe and Nathan Barb where proving tough to handle in the fwd line while Kris Milne and Declan Gillan continued the midfield dominance. 1/2 time Jets increased the lead 10.6.66 to Uni 1.2.8

After half time the Uni team upped the anti and came out strong as they applied pressure around the packs and drove the play through the middle. Matt Ryall, Josh Dobing and James Davies worked extremely hard to turn the tide for the home team with Rising Star player Brendan Hayes providing spark across half forward. If Uni had of kicked straighter the game could have been anyone’s going into the last. 3/4 time Jets 13.8.86 to Uni 2.8.20

The last quarter seen a lot of players pushing past the game 1 pain barrier with the jets continuing to try and implement their structures. Alex Shain, Julian Clarkson and James Noble used their experience to keep driving the team forward with another rising star Brendan Corbett showing his potential with some crucial marks. Full time Jets 17.14.116 to Uni 6.10.46

Overall the coaches were pleased with the performance and despite there still being a fair bit of work to do the efforts and intent from all of the players showed that the squad are on the right path. With 7 rising stars playing in their first senior game and a host of new players playing together for the first time there are some very exciting times ahead.

The team will continue training Tuesday and there is still plenty of room for players who want to have a crack at 1st Grade Footy in the AFL Canberra Comp with the JETS!!! The team will now focus on their next pre season games at the Sapphire Coast Lightning Premiership on Sunday 29th March at Eden.
